The Power of SLOW Newsletter

the $1 Million Dollar Question

Please consider hitting "display photos" for a cozier reading experience.

Dear Reader —

I remember the very first days of the Internet.

My fellow journalists and I were all gathered around one computer in our newsroom that had the ability to connect to the Internet. I’m sure we had to do that dial up thing.

Our editor, Jeffrey, was sitting in the chair. The rest of us peering over his shoulder as he went from site to site to site.

We stood there in awe.

The possibility at that moment wasn’t even fully understood.

What would change in our world as a result of that Internet access was lost on us.

We were just purely entertained and mystified.

Back then you could likely read the whole ‘net in about a few hours.

Now, there’s millions of pages you’ll never see in your lifetime.

The sheer amount of information flooding our wellbeing zone is truly incomprehensible.

Which is why The Power of S L O W is here to disrupt all of that.

For you. For your team. For your clients.

And, especially for your potential customers or clients -- or fans or readers.

But, Shawn??? How on earth will I keep up with my business goals if I am moving so slow in this fast paced world?

That’s the $1 Million Dollar Question I am going to share with you in this newsletter as well as in my monthly masterminds and other offerings.

  • To slow down and do what's good for you is a form of courage.
  • To say enough is enough is courageous.
  • To step off the social media treadmill is BRAVE.
  • To give yourself permission to do things your way, a slower way, a much more efficient for YOU is badass.

That's the Brave YES here.

The rest? It's about making an impact in authentic, unconventional ways that will delight and inspire your people into action.

Are you in? Are you ready for me to show you how you can do this?

XO

Shawn

Is Social Media Working For Your Business — Or Against Your Wellbeing?

Is your endless scrolling and posting turning into a business liability rather than an asset? Discover the five warning signs that your social media strategy might be undermining your success and wellbeing — and what to do about it.

SLOW MARKETING TIP:

develop a 24-hour rule
for your content creation

I have been a prolific content creator for 13 years. I love a good creative inspiration and spent many years posting spontaneously when the muse spoke.

But while I still do that from time to time for social media, I do not do that for my unsocial content strategy -- which is the most important part of the marketing I do.

Instead, I hit pause. You should, too.

Before publishing any content, let it sit for at least 24 hours.

Pausing eliminates reactive posting and ensures your message aligns with your brand values and business goals.

During your pause, reflect by asking yourself: "Does this content serve my most aligned client that I want to attract or am I posting out of FOMO or for someone else?"

This simple delay creates supremely intentional marketing that resonates more deeply and prevents algorithm-chasing behaviors that waste your time and energy.

And, it slows your roll so you aren't flooding the wellbeing zone of your followers and readers.

So breathe a bit. Edit a lot. Then hit publish.

🦥 Ready to build a complete system around intentional content designed just for your aligned clients? I'm offering a limited number of "unsocial marketing strategy sessions" to help consultants and coaches like you develop a personalized slow marketing system just for your kind of business. Oh, HEY! A New MASCOT! 🦥
– because this is my #softandslow ERA.

In early March, our family took a slow adventure to The National Aquarium in Baltimore on a Friday night and the highlight of our trip was the sloth. (I even got a selfie with it!) Our girls -- now 19 years old -- were also mesmerized by this slow moving creature.

Yes, my peacock branding is going on hiatus or maybe even into retirement though I do love what the peacock stands for ... but thanks to my dear husband, Dan, I'm going to start letting my love of sloth life rule again.

Yes, again. If you've been around my work for the past 13 years, my love of the sloth will not at all surprise you. The sloth was the unofficial mascot of my membership community that ran for 8 years.

Sloths aren't lazy.

They are conscious of how to conserve their energy.

They are extremely efficient.

They are ridiculously strategic. There is no wasted action that will diminish their energy.

And, they are smart and strong, which keeps them safe from predators.

They move slow, intentionally and practice rest.

Sloths have survived for over 60 million years with minimal evolutionary changes, proving their slow, efficient strategy works long-term.

Sounds like we all need to invoke the SLOTH life so we can be more of who we want to be in our lifetimes. 🦥

Client Praise

"I felt such a relief when I was able to stop doing a whole bunch of stuff that wasn’t working ... "

Thanks, Mia!

“Before working with Shawn, I was receiving a lot of boilerplate advice about how to approach marketing for my business from people who didn’t take time to get to know me or my business. I was also told I needed help doing things I shouldn’t have been doing. I was wasting a lot of time and money on strategies that were not working.” -- Mia Henry, founder of Freedom Lifted.

“There is an alternative: the unfashionable but powerful notion of letting time use you, approaching life not as an opportunity to implement your predetermined plans for success but as a matter of responding to the needs of your place and your moment in history.”
